Why did the devil tempt Jesus?
After being baptized by John the Baptist Jesus was tempted by the devil after 40 days and nights of fasting in the Judean desert
Matthew 4:1
Then was Jesus led up of the spirit in the wilderness to be tempted of the devil .
The first thing to notice about Jesus temptation is that it was God’s idea
Jesus was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
This demonstrates that god was not on the defensive in the situation he was on the offensive demonstrating
The superior of his son over Satan .
God allows us to be tempted by the devil so that he can demonstrate the superiority of Jesus Christ.
God created humanity constitutionally lower than the angel to demonstrate what he could be with less humans when that last is committed to him.
Verses what he could do with more angels when that more is in rebellion to him .
Hebrews 2 :7
Thou madest him a little lower than the angels ; thou crownest him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
Why did God put his son to the test in this way The bible refus to Jesus as the second Adam or last adam
1 Corinthian 15 : 45-47
And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul ; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit .
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual , but that which is natural ; and afterward that which is spiritual.
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the lord from heaven.
The second Adam went into the wilderness to defeat Satan , so that he could bad in back to the garden
Matthew 4:2
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights he was afterward an hungred.
Fasting is to forego a physical craving in order to satisfy a greater spiritual need. It entails a change in priorities
Fasting prioritizes prayer and fellowship with god in order to feed the rather than the stomach
Matthew 4:3
And when the temper came to him , he said , if thou be the son of god , command that these stones be made bread.
The tempter said if your the son of god tell these stones to become bread
This indicates that the devil had been watching Jesus go without food
He too is aware of what you’re up to and tailor the temptation accordingly
In this situation, Satan questioned God’s prounoun Jesus was hungry he has not been fed by God.
Matthew 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written , Man shall not live by bread alone , but by every word that proceedeth out the mouth of God.
It is written man shall not live on bread alone
But on every word that comes from the mouth of god.
Deuteronomy 8:3
And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with mamma; which thou knewest not, neither did they fathers know ; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only but by every word that proceedeth out of the month of the lord doth man live.
Was Jesus Hungry ?
Yes but he was willing to rely on God rather than act on his own.
Matthew 4:5
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple
The devil tempted him to his death and not honoring God’s plan
Satan urged Jesus to fufill God’s will for his life in a way that avoided the cross
The devil is familiar with the bible and employs it
If he can’t persuade you to act independently of god, be will work your religion
But god doesn’t need satan assistance to get you where he wants you to go
Matthew 4:7
Jesus said unto him, it is written again , then shall not tempt the lord thy God.

Matthew 4: 8-9
Again the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountains and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them ;
And saith unto him, all these things will I give thee , if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Satan wants your worship , he wants you to bow
That’s what he got from Adam & Eve in the garden and that’s what he wants from you .
He will make tempting offers to persuade you to do so but will never be worth the cost of your soul burning for eternity
Matthew 4:10
Then saith Jesus unto him, get thee hence , Satan : for it is written thou shalt worship the lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve .
Jesus said away from me Satan, for it is written the lord you god, and serve him only
Jesus had enough and said go away satan
This command demonstrates his absolute power
You owe nothing to the devil and you have Jesus delegated authority over Satan
Submit yourselves therefore to god
Resist the devil and he will flee from you .
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God . Resist the devil , and he will flee from you.
Matthew 4:11
Then the devil leaveth him, and behold , angels came and ministered unto him.
The devil left him and angels began and served him.
Satan is unable to deal with a righteous life that constantly confronts him with god’s word
He was tempted in every way , just as we are , yet he did not sin
Hebrews 4 :15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities ; but was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin.
2 Corinthians 5:2
For he hath made him to be sin for us , who knew no sin that we mig
ht be made the righteousness of God in him .

for such an high priest became us, who is holy , harmless undefiled , separate from sinners and made higher than the heavens

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins and in him is no sin.
Jesus defeated Satan by using a weapon that every one has at their disposal
The sword of the spirit which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armour of god ,that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil .
Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit , which is the word of god:
Jesus met all 3 temptations with scriptural heath from Deuteronomy
Jesus temptations follow these patterns that are common to all men
The first temptations concerns was the lust of the flesh
Our lord is hungry and the devil tempted him
To convert stone into bread but he replies Deuteronomy 8:3
And he humbled thee and suffered thee to hunger and fed them with mamma which without knowest not
Neither did they fathers know that he might make thee know that does not live by bread only , but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the lord doth may lie
The second Temptation is the pride of life
Psalm 91: 11- 12 devil receipts
But the lord responds with scripture to the contrary
Stating that it is wrong for ham to abuse his own powers
The third temptation is that he is the lust of the eyes.
And if any quick route to the messiah ship
Could be attained bypassing the crucifixion for which he had originally come, this was the way.
The significant of Jesus temptations
Particularly because they occurred at the start of his public ministry appears to be best understood in terms of the type of messiah he was to be he would not complete his mission by using his supernatural power for his needs by using his power through miracles or magic on by compromising with satan in worship idolatrous worship
Jesus temptation was not symbolic
